Family is the main foundation of community life. Therefore, family law is one of the important themes in the discussion of Islamic law. This article aims to compare the opinions of Islamic scholars on contemporary family law. The results of this study indicate that family law receives special attention in Islamic teachings. The Qur'an and Sunnah provide explanations about marriage, divorce. Family law and ethics are described in more detail based on the ijtihad of Islamic scholars, and are codified in fiqh books. Muslim family laws in various countries are modified and elaborated in order to achieve the goals of Shariah, and maintain contemporary family interests, are in harmony with the current legal rules, and follow the needs of Muslims based on their realities.
